Changes during Production: Remanufacturing, Workflow Changes, Nonconformance Reviews and Scrapping
Flows, Runs
Authentise Flows supports multiple types of changes after a piece has begun production on the manufacturing facility floor. Commonly referred to as re-work, remanufacture, redlining, or change requests, the MES seeks to streamline this process and support our users as they perform this work.
The following types of Production Change can be made:
Workflow Change - amending the workstations that the pieces need to be sent to
Remanufacture - redoing a specific production step or completely remanufacturing a piece(s) from printing
Non-Conformance Review - flagging a specific piece(s) for a quality review process
Scrap - marking in Flows that the piece(s) is no longer required to complete manufacture.
Initiating a Production Change
Each of the production changes is initiated within the Runs section of the MES and affects one or more pieces. The options for production changes can be found by expanding the Run Item Overview box at the bottom of the page.

You can apply production changes to whole line items, or specific pieces. Click the toggle in the top-right to jump between the line item and pieces view.

The required production change can be selected from the dropdown at the bottom of the page.

Once the required Production Change has been selected, the required line times or pieces that need to be changed can be selected using the checkboxes on the right hand side.

Once all pieces / line items have been selected, click Begin to start making the necessary changes (as outlined below).
Production Change Type 1 - Workflow Change
Commonly this type of change is used to add Review Boards, incorporate last-minute changes / redlines to the production workflow, or to address an error that was made during planning for the piece. Adding additional steps will result in Flows automatically creating new runs for the piece. Removing steps will result in the system automatically removing that piece from the related runs. Please note: For Workflow Changes, you can only select pieces that have the same workflow. Once a piece has been selected, any pieces with different workflows will be greyed out and you are unable to select them.
When you click Begin for a Production Workflow Change, you will see a familiar interaction allowing you to change the currently assigned workflow for the selected piece(s). A reason for the workflow change must be provided at the top of the window, and then new worksteps can be added or removed as required.

When you click Save, you can then decide whether you would like to diverge the schedules for the split off pieces or keep them combined (ie the diverged pieces rejoin the large batch of pieces before proceeding through the remainder of their collective manufacturing processes).

Once this has been selected, you are then able to also update or add additional work instructions for the piece. Once this is saved, the Workflow Change is complete. You can make several workflow changes as needed for each individual piece.
Production Change Type 2 - Remanufacture
Selecting one or more pieces using the Remanufacture checkboxes will allow you to send one or more pieces through a prescribed remanufacture process. After clicking Begin, you will be given the option to pick the specific type of remanufacture (Fail Pieces or Redo this run only) and record some information about why the remanufacture is occurring.

Fail Part - Selecting this option will result in the Piece(s) being sent for full re-manufacture (ie printed from scratch). Flows will automatically create a new print run and post-processing runs for this piece(s).
Redo this run only - Selecting this option will result in the Piece(s) automatically undergo a Production Workflow Change. The process step that was just marked as complete will be inserted as the next production step for the selected Piece(s). Please note - if a batch of Pieces are selected together, they will all be included in the same (new) run.
Production Change Type 3 - Flag for Non-Conformance Review
Non-conformance Reviews are the newest type of Production Change supported within Authentise! This new functionality allows users to Flag Pieces for Non-conformance Review and initiates the Non-conformance Review process. This process is fully configurable to support your organization's unique quality needs. For more guidance on setting up your Non-conformance Review process, check this out!
Users have the option to flag one or more pieces for a Non-conformance Review. By doing this, the flagged pieces will have a Non-conformance Review step added as the next step in their workflow. This will generate a Run for the designated Non-conformance Review workstation for that Location, where all selected pieces will be sent.

Production Type Change 4 - Scrap
Users also have the option to scrap one or more pieces. Scrapping is typically done when you have decided that a piece should stop progressing through its manufacturing workflow, generally because it is known that it will not be fit for purpose AND you do not want to reprint that Scrapped piece (either you're never going to reprint it OR you may reprint it but using a slightly different Geometry, Workflow or Material).
After selecting the Scrap option from the production change dropdown, you will be given the option to leave details to describe the reason you have decided to scrap the selected pieces. You will also be reminded of the scrap functionality and the other available options for a production change. Once you have confirmed this action and added a reason for scrapping, you can then click the "Scrap" button.

Selecting to Scrap some piece(s) will automatically end the workflow for the selected piece(s) and update the Runs that were planned to contain these piece(s). It will also add the Scrap Reason as a note on the scrapped Piece's Traceability page and mark those pieces with the status Incomplete.
